*Q7 suv not A7, which is a sedan.

And Q7 and XC90 are very safe vehicles with elegant timeless designs, so no surprise they're quite popular. Lexus and Mercedes and Escalade suvs are so tacky and ostentatious in comparison.

It sounds like you’re fearful of looking “tacky” — ? 🤨

Isn’t the Volvo notoriously unreliable?

We have a 2011 highlander and have had no recalls and no problems with it whatsoever.

I've been thinking about upgrading our Volvo Xc60 to the 90 - with the carpool years in full force once Covid is done. Want to also test drive the new Subaru Ascent also. Doesn't have a hybrid or electric engine option though - that's a bummer.

We were in this dilemma a few weeks ago and solved it by getting a minivan. We had had an old Odyssey and got rid of it last year so we know what it feels like to have total space and comfort and we are wanting to do a lot of road trips this summer. We tried all those "3rd row: SUV's. I liked the 2021 Kia Sorrento the best and the Audi Q7 but when it came down to it, we needed space. You cannot find extra space in those SUV's. You just cannot. I have two kids in sports who have a lot of gear and require a lot of travel and it will only get worse as they get older. So, we got a Sienna and are soooo happy!

What year? I just traded in my Highlander. It had 150k miles on and it probably could go for another 100k miles. I never had any problems whatsoever. It’s a boring car, though, and I was ready for a change.

LOVE my 21 Highlander. Looked at almost every 3-row, paid cash and money wasn’t an issue, but I am conscious of how I spend it and didn’t want to pay double for something that wasn’t twice as valuable to me. Just didn’t see it with the luxury ones though you’re ultimately paying for status which is a monetary value only you can determine. Had Toyota not redesigned the Highlander last year however I would have gone with something higher end.

Reliability for the MDX is so terrible that they skipped a year and went straight from 2020 to 2022. This vehicle is the reason that Acura is rated the 4th most unreliable brand in 2019. I am not sure if anyone wants to be the Guinea pig for the new "rebooted" Acura.

The Volvo XC90 is a great car. I know a few families that have one but I heard maintenance is annoying and I couldn't deal with that.

Have you looked at consumer reports for the MDX? It actually has a projected reliability of 1/5. I would not get an mdx. If you don’t care about the design change for the XC90, get that. It’s soooo much nicer than a highlander.

For the 2022? It’s a full redesign? what could they know about reliability yet? And FWIW There are several on our street in the 3-10 year old range and all the owners love them.

It was for the 2021 model projected reliability. I would not expect any car bought new T this point to last 10 years. Too much plastic.

We have a 2017 X90 and love it. The most comfortable car we have ever had. Plenty of room for 2 adults, 2 teenagers and 1 large dog (car top carrier helps for longer trips).

OP here. It’s technically an inch bigger here and there but I don’t think anything noticeable. I really want to like the Subaru but I don’t know why I don’t like it that much.

Same feeling re: Subaru. Can't get excited about it.

I’m loving my Subaru. But...if you’re comparing it to a Volvo or amount luxury car, of course the luxury car will be more attractive. The Subaru competes against large 3rd row SUV’s...VW Atlas, Palisade, Kia Telluride, Highlander, Pilot.

But ironically the top trim on those models costs as much as a lower trim MDX which feels more luxurious.
