NP in a similar situation. DD has the same few things she wants to wear over and over again. I’ve bought her more in the past and then they get donated, never worn, because she is still growing and changes her style so frequently. What I’m not including in that price is the sports gear. She needs clothes for her sports and I seem to spend more than that as she grows. Ex- all the winter stuff because practices were outside all winter, just purchased rain gear for when it rains, new things to wear to practice because the old don’t fit etc. This is much more than her every day/school clothes.

Why would anyone need so many things that they can’t easily recall the last time they wore each? I don’t buy more than 2 weeks of clothes, and between consignment, sale, clearance and thrift? Under $100 each per year. Shoes are their own separate issue, since I don’t do second hand shoes unless it’s a one-time wear for a dance or other event.

Lower el: cheap, because she’s growing and/or deciding it “feels wrong”

Upper el: cheap leggings every 2-3 months (because changing into gymnastics clothes to do handstands and cartwheels for every brain break is ridiculous, so the crotch splits)

Middle: cheap, still growing, and replacing the oops from a period debacle

High: better quality clothes, basics only, use your own money to by what you specifically want since it’s out of what I’m willing to spend

I buy on sale/clearance, basic colors and patterns, so that things can mix and match without being matchy-match. If they want something else, they buy it.

I think you missed the part about returning a top. She said a $20 bathing suit already. I was in the mini target yesterday and there were a bunch of regular $8 Tees(some had a pattern some were plain)and there were denim shorts on the sales rack

A lot of kids are still growing and growing fast. Last season's clothes may not fit at all this season.

A freshmen in college now but very little in HS. I was sick to death of seeing her HS sweatshirt or track tees. Santa gave her $150 for a new sweater or clothing of her choice and she spent some but not all.,,

"Per season" suggests you're placing too high a priority on fashion.

My DD used to be so easy to shop for but now she's at the foothills of puberty and I've been spending more to get the right fit so she can be comfortable as she changes. Buying some foundation garments and going into women's sizes sometimes to get the right length in bottoms due to her height. Not a lot more as she will be sure to grow more soon.

DD is 13, still growing, is into trends and not into hand-me-downs (though she loves to thrift). If not thrifted, she prefers the teen type stores. We buy some things there on sale. I tell her what I'm willing to pay and if something is over that she has to make up the difference. Per season - maybe $250?
