Waiting until 18, just puts others at risk IF those others don't know the 18 year old hasn't driven.

Let them use the family car under supervision for awhile, and if they do well, then perhaps a used one without high horsepower, not showy. Takes time to learn judgement and how to handle a car in real life traffic - we didn’t let our kids get their license until they were 18. I put too many kids in morgue drawers from MVAs, not going to let that happen to mine.
