Carvana isn't overpriced. The price they advertised is the price you will pay. No bait and switch.
Other used car dealers are notorious for bait and switch tactics. The price you see online is never the price you'll pay. They will
tell you that you get that price only by qualifying for student + military + retiree + disability discounts on top of financing with them.
If you take that out, their actual prices are usually higher than Carmax or Carvana.

When I sold my car to Carvana the "valuation" was an online questionnaire, and they didn't even inspect the car before giving me the check.

I'm wondering if they have to charge more to make up for unscrupulous people checking "great condition" and selling them clunkers.

It's probably not even worth it for Carvana to sue those people since they already own what is likely their most valuable asset and you can't get blood from a stone.

Carvana has bad reviews and was under fire a few years aho for buying a lot of Auction cars from Copart, Carlisle, and even some title washed flood cars from Harvey. Buyer Beware.

the sleazy used car dealership that you walk into an immediately feel the need to shower.

Or a totally normal car dealership that has used cars mixed in with their new cars.

I'll wait for the other brands to get on board with this business model.

If it's really a roughly $2k premium, subtract $1k for shipping, so you're paying $1k to avoid wasting several afternoons searching, test driving, and negotiating locally. Time is money.

My local dealership, for one. I saw the same car both places; Carvana was $2K more ($24K vs $26K).

Since they have such a large inventory, if it's the exact car you want, it's not a terrible deal. Shipping across the country to your driveway can cost upwards of $1000 -- that's included in the higher price.

CarMax and Carvana both are "premium" used car dealers. You tend to get better cars from them than from other dealers, but you pay for it. Is it worth it? Hard to say.

They don't even do test drives. You pay for the car and have 7 days to return it for any reason. They are just banking on you being too lazy to return it. And even then, returning it to Carvana is not so easy.

Lots of reviews out there about people getting dirty cars from Carvana that were not even detailed before the sale. They had to go back to Carvana and get a credit so they could get it washed and detailed on their own time.

No thanks. It's for suckers who can't put down their phone.
