I think the OP started thIs conversation as a PSA for clueless DCUMers. BTS is the biggest band in the world right now. Their music videos have 1 billion plus views on YouTube and one of the highest streaming stats on all the online music platforms in the world.
I mean, they are the biggest band in the world. But they are also a boyband who are targeting teens. And there's nothing wrong with that. But it is also extraordinarily normal for people in their 30s/40s/50s to not 'get' or at least not get as much enjoyment out of hot bands like BTS as the teenagers do. A rite of passage for all generations.
Telling people in their 40s that the band that all the 17 year olds love is amazing has literally never worked. For the same reason that anyone decorating their house in 1995 abhored anything that looked like it belonged in 1975. Different trends different tastes etc.
I guess I feel like there's nothing wrong with BTS, and there's nothing wrong with Americans in their middle age not being that into them. And there's nothing wrong with the teens and 20 year olds who are madly in love with them or the smaller number of 30 somethings that appreciate them. Different music speaks to people differently depending on the stage of life you're in and the culture you grew up in. Always has been, always will be.
