True thats because after U14 the people obsessed with rankings turn too where is my DC ranked as a player who cares about the team. Unless you have a mediocre player in ECNL. In that case you are banking on your teams success because there's nothing special about your DC.
Agree somewhat. For girls at least, after U15 it’s all about college looks *at the player* but those are easier to come by if the player is on a competitive team.
Rankings doesn’t make your team competitive.
No, but the team being competitive will make the ranking.
Not really. A team can play trash tournaments and trash teams and pile up the ranking points and then get smacked around when when real competition comes knocking. Happens all the time.
Rankings are lies and can be manipulated.
U9 parents believe in this trash.
That works for gotsoccer rankings. It won't work for youth soccer rankings. If you're ranked 6 goals higher than a weak team and only win by 4, your ranking will go down.

It's actually serves a purpose, like, making sure tournaments are fair. If not for rankings, kids egos would get hurt on top of parents egos because they lose every game 10-0. Quit being so narrow minded. Rankings have been around since the beginning of sports. The essence of sports is to compete, win and be #1.
I do hope you are enjoying your kids participation award though.
Narrow minded? Okay...fine....YOU tell me what rankings are used to determine your favorite tournament. I will then pull up the rankings and ask you how it compares to what you actually know. Fair?
So now I ask you. Give me a age group and tournament. Let’s do some imaginary seeding so I can show you it’s BS.

Not the PP - but how can you show him it's BS? Let's take the Jefferson cup U16 tournament for example. What exactly are you going to show is BS?

They also seem to carry over too much data/results from past years. Rosters and teams change from year-to-year, especially at the younger age groups (U11 to U14 range). For instance, a particular U12 team at a club may have a regional color designation in their name, but that team is considered the top team within age group at the club. But by the time those U12 players become U14, they are playing on teams with Academy, ECNL, Elite, Premier, etc. in their name, while the color designated team is still around but now the 5th or 6th team in the pecking order. YSR doesn't realize this team is not the same level, roster, etc. that is was a couple years prior.

No, again, that is your opinion. Have one kid out of school and another in U16 ECNL. I also volunteer as a tournament coordinator. You have absolutely no idea how these rankings you hate so much do for tournament brackets. Before YSR and back when GotSoccer had forums, there was a huge issue with figuring out tournaments. Then YSR came along and it made everything much much easier. A lot less arguments and drama.
I'll happily say that YSR certainly has created egos, no doubt about that, but at the same time it has set a precedence for setting the competition which heavily out weighs watching many, many, many teams get their doors blown off as well as save tears.
The only thing I don't understand is why GotSoccer has not revamped it's system. I'm guessing it's purely for a money grab.
