+1 Use the remote starter and also the old fashioned windshield cover.

Wow, I have a 2021 forester and I don’t like it but I love the big windshield and have never noticed it being hotter/sunnier than any other car! Mine is dark gray, I wonder if that makes any difference?

I also tend to cover up in the summer because of my tragic Irish skin so maybe that’s why I haven’t noticed.

I spring for the stupid, cursedly expensive remote start specifically for the heat of summer so I can start the car before I load the kids when it’s roasting. So OP if you haven’t tried that, there’s an app from 1993 you can buy and enjoy.

Wow good to read all these comments. I've been thinking of getting a Forester.

FWIW, my Outback blew freezing cold air. I had to turn it off after a while because I was very cold. I took my car to the shop last summer, because the A/C stopped working and I thought it had a problem. It did have a problem - the mechanic found a chipmunk nest on the A/C ductwork, lol.

We have a 17 Forester. AC can be anemic on hot days. Its because they have a ton of glass and its thin glass. Tint your front door windows. That helps. Make sure the AC is in spec (it probably is). Otherwise just accept that when the sun is at a lower angle and hitting you, it will be just something to live with. Midday, with sun overhead, even if its really hot, it does ok. Its when the glass is taking a lot of solar energy, the AC struggles.

I have a Forrester and although I’m not sure I know what you’re talking about with respect to the light bouncing into the car that way, I do get particularly hot in my car.

OP, what trim is your forester?
I have a 2021 base trim and I HATE IT.
I thought I would get around to tinting the windows, but I’m probably going to just get rid of it. Even if I tinted the windows, the AC still sucks. It might be a little better in the Premium because I believe there are a couple of vents in the back seat. I’m sure it’s fine for Vermont or wherever but not Virginia.

I have the same issue with my 2016 subaru forester. I think its the position of the windshield, which is good for aerodynamics, but it will make you look old in no time as the sun is frying you..I will get rid of this subaru.

I have two 2015 Foresters and I’ve never had a problem. Maybe the newer models have a problem.

To OP: can buy a Sunlight detector from amazon, for measuring UV through the windshield. I did this for my wifes car tand decided not to add tint to her windshield because the detector said it already blocked 80 percent. A tint shop should have detectors you can use for free

There is also a dash cover you can buy to cover your hot dash. Google it. They are custom fit for cars, cost 30 dollars. dashboards get really hot depending on material.

This is the way. I don’t have forester, but put the tint on my windshields, front and back, for last 2 cars. Costs about 160 at a tint place for windshield. Make sure to get ceramic. Also have darker ceramic tint for other windows. No sunburn for me. I got it for sunburn protection {had skin cancer), not heat, but the tint takes care of both issues.
