My DH felt the same way and we both like the other shows you named OP. Really it just depends on whether you have the time to “get through” the first few seasons because you can’t really skip them - part of what makes it a great show is the evolution of the characters over time.

OP. I feel like this could be right for us too then. Thanks!

I started this series really late, after the final season had aired. Friends told me that it gets progressively better. I enjoyed the first episode enough to keep going, but didn't LOVE it until season 3, and honestly, each season is better than the last.

Seriously, by season 5 I have cried at a few episodes. It's funny, but it's also incredibly endearing and heart warming to watch these people grow and love each other.

Well, that would be an improvement because they were insufferably dull and predictable in the first episode. Not giving it another chance.

BTW, Catastrophe is spit out your bever of choice funny.

I like the character and love Moira in general, but even when I enjoy an episode, I will just forget I’m watching it and neglect to watch more, which isn’t a great sign. Especially since we’re always looking for something light and funny to watch.

I loved Ted Lasso though. I think I just enjoy the culture clash on that one more because the protagonist isn’t cynical, and the cynicism of others is played as a joke. I have really grown to detest cynicism and even though it’s not the heart of Schitt’s Creek, there’s a lot of it in the early episodes and it just puts a damper on it for me.

It’s actually a relief sometimes to realize a show everyone loves just isn’t for me. It’s like a reminder that I still can still think for myself and don’t have to like things because everyone else does.

Tried 4 episodes and stopped.

I love the show and I’m on my second viewing. I agree the first half of season 1 wasn’t great and that it does improve.

I find it super funny, especially the David and Moira characters but I do enjoy the whole Rose family.

Thank you for this thread. I tried it last year and have been going around thinking I lacked some critical humor gene.

I didn’t love the first episode. But I agree you’ll know by the third.

I don't think it is meant to be that. But I would really appreciate some recs for laugh out loud funny. I watch a lot of comedy specials, but would love any sitcom that actually brings out my cackle, so keep them coming! (seriously, no snark, keep them coming!)

I was very glad that his role diminished in later seasons. Even the wackiest regular characters were still played as real people. His never rose above lazy caricature.

Loved it after the first episode. I get people don’t like it but, my humor in general is different from those types of people.
