Immediate PP here. What’s also peculiar about Luke for a Jewish kid is that Luke the Gospel writer was Greek, not Jewish by background. Again though, almost no one would think about this.

I have a Lucas but we never thought of it a as religious name. Luke does sound a little more Christian.

I am a practicing evangelical Christian so yes, if I hear the name Luke, I assume Christian. But if your last name is Jewish-sounding I would be confused. I assume most people think nothing of it though.

I liked Luke but we didn't have a boy. We were raised Christian but I never thought of it screaming christian. I thought it seemed like a strong name.

I know a Jewish Lucas. It doesn't strike me as a Christian name.

I would give a side eye to a Jewish boy named Christian or Christopher. I would probably think it's weird if you chose Nicholas, Patrick or John.

I think Luke is definitely Christian. Walk into any Catholic church and you will see paintings of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John on the walls.

We’re Jewish.

I am the poster who said I wouldn’t think it was Jewish name, but of course that doesn’t mean it’s a name you should steer away from. I agree it’s fairly neutral at this point.

There was a Luke/Lucas name thread last week.

Most Lukes are short for Lucas, no?

No, it's often used on its own as a given name.

+1. I'd say Luke is more traditional than Lucas. Luke is a book of the Bible!

*Obviously has never opened the New Testament.

I started the “Brother for Luke” thread. My husband is Jewish. It’s a great name! No regrets!

Congrats!
