This is what I did, absolutely love it. I built cabinets above and the utility sink was from home depot with a cabinet below. Handy for washing kids shoes, soaking items, washing paint brushes, anything I didnt want in my kitchen sink. It included a sprayer option which I liked too. I also optimized a lot of wall storage in there (it was a tiny space) including installing a shower rod on curtain brackets to hang clothes to dry. Hooks for kids backpacks and jackets on the walls, etc.

If you have a front loading washer, there's no soak cycle. I used the sink to soak stained clothes.

I put a big utility sink in the garage because my laundry room was so small. The two are attached, so it made more sense to have a large sink in the garage to wash off muddy boots and throw the beach stuff in (I live at the beach full time).

It’s very common to have a washer drain into a utility sink, especially in a basement.

Same. Also, rinsing dirty shoes, washing the filter from the vacuum, rinse sand off shells from the beach, putting water on stains before I pretreat, basically anything that requires water that I don’t want to do in the kitchen sink.

I agree with the pp who suggested that you reconfigure to more of a mud room set up and put in a real utility sink.

I do like having a utility sink. But I'm not sure how I'd feel about it if it was in my entry way. Mine is in our laundry room in the basement.

I'd also be tempted to have more mudroom type storage and find another sink area I could use for that.

10-15lb dogs. My sink is pretty big! I love bathing babies in the sink. It's the perfect size and I think it's cleaner than a kitchen sink (mine is deeper too)

My laundry room is on the 2nd floor. I haven’t used the sink in 5 years. Use the hose for outside messes (or paint or whatever) and use kitchen sink for other stuff. I’m 100% in favor of a much more useful mud room for you!

Change to deep utility sink. So handy when you need to wash off paintbrushes, workers /handymen can clean up there, wash shoes/boots, scrub out a stain, rinse mop there, etc. I use mine at least 4-5 times a week.

we have one, though it is deeper/bigger than what yours sounds like. Things we use ours for: cleaning muddy shoes/boots and letting them drip dry in there, occasionally soaking things before they go in the washing machine (with oxiclean or the like), filling the dog's water bowl (also in the laundry room), washing/cleaning messy things that we don't want to wash in the kitchen sink.

I'd wait a few months and see whether you change your routines in a new house and find it useful or not.

Yes, it’s very normal and to code.
