FYI Charleston is not “on the way” home you can make a gigantic detour and add about 2 to 2 1/2 hours to your drive home.

We love the Fat Hen on Johns Island. They have outdoor seating.

We're doing HHI, too, and were lucky to find a house. Definitely sticking to outdoors activities and eating at "home". (Maybe outdoor dining once if we can get a table at a favorite spot. We'll see.) I'm so looking forward to the change of scenery.

We drove down to Isle of Palms this past weekend. We've already been into Charleston twice. We booked a private carriage tour through Palmetto Carriage Works (the public ones are packed - don't buy that they are spacing people - they aren't). Downtown has not been crowded. In fact King St is rather empty and a lot of stores closed. Lots of restaurants are reservation only - no walk-ins - but we've been able to get reservations (we only eat at places with outside tables). The City of Charleston still has a mask mandate, but of course some people ignore it. All the tour companies make your wear masks - even for outside tours like walking tours and carriage rides.

Thank you. We found a place on HHI and can nix Charleston. But before we pay, is it a madhouse? I haven’t done much thinking on this. All pretty last minute. Our goal is to chill. My daughter is now bringing a friend and they will rent bikes. Summers we go Ocean Isle beach in NC, very quiet, but wanted warmer and place w/ heated pool.

You can avoid crowds if you want to on HHI. Rent bikes now.
