I'm the pro-Guerlain poster, and yes, this is their kohl eyeliner in pencil form, which I think works great (although the crayon version, no longer available in the US, was my favorite).

NP I use stila too. It doesn’t look too black if you get dark brown or smoky quartz. Blondish person here.

I'll...third? the cake liners. I've been using the Laura Mercier for probably 20 years to tightline between my upper lashes. It doesn't budge. I also do the same as you if I want a more bold, cat eye look. Start with the cake liner and trace over it with the pen. I always start with the black tightline, but sometimes I will add some additional liner on the lid itself, usually the Urban Decay 24/7 liner mentioned above.

I also love the versatility of cake eyeliners. Laura Mercier is the gold standard, but Ben Nye makes more colors.

There is a learning curve. But once you get the hang of it, it can be so good.

I like a doing a thick but not dark wing of the brown or aubergine shade, then go over it with a thin line of Stila black pen liner. So good.

Not Indian so maybe this is not helpful but I really like the pixie brand from target that is like a thin tipped magic marker. Stays on really well and relatively easy to apply. Black always looks to dark on me so I use the dark brown color.
And not expensive!

I will second the PP who prefers cake eyeliner applied with a wet angled brush. I actually love Nars eye shadows for this and appreciate the range of colors. I usually do a dark brown or a black with a little shimmer in it, but I've also used some of their very dark blue-greens and they look subtle and lovely.

I can get liquid liner to work but I find it too hard to remove, and gel liners simply do not work with my lashes, which are quite thick and it's too hard to get the gel liner right up against the lash line.

OP here, my problem with liquid is (a) I don't think my hand is steady enough for it and (b) it looks freakishly dark to me. Like too black. Like black hair-dye black. Do you know what I mean? I'd be happy to try it again though, thank you!
