As someone who just purged a lot of high end baby stuff, no one wants you baby stuff. People who want high end like to buy new. People who buy used want to haggle and send you 13 emails for a stroller to decide they don’t want it.

Find a reputable charitable organization that helps new parents or women in shelters. Donate and take the tax write-off. If you can afford “high end” items, you are probably itemizing taxes.

You will get more via the tax donation for giving to a charity than you will make consigning or selling online with a lot less hassle.

I’ve had luck with totswap. The Gaithersburg one is virtual so you only have to go up there once to drop off the items that you sell, but you do have to take pictures of everything you want to list and add it into their system. Still easier than hauling everything up there to put out on the floor.

Harsh, but true. Why not contact one of those daycare centers for teen moms associated with a high school? They may know of someone in need who would not mind very old, used items.

That said, I knew a woman who saved enough for a house downpayment by flipping baby/kid items she got for free or cheap on Craigslist. So who knows? Your old baby items could really make a difference in someone’s life.

Actually goodwill, Salvation Army, and other major donation sites just trash most of what they get. So it might not be too valuable to donate to someone in need but in terms of sustainability it IS better to find someone who actually would use the stuff.

Since you have a driveway, why not try holding a garage sale on a nice Saturday or Sunday? Haul out all your stuff, put price tags on it, and sit outside with a book for a morning or afternoon. Sort the baby clothes into bins by size and price. Ask any friendly neighbors if they want to also do a “spring clean” in their driveway and market it on your neighborhood listserv, post a few signs, and go from there. Donate whatever doesn’t sell (or, photograph it and post it on NextDoor). It’s a little more work but I’d rather get it all done in one day than go back and forth with people on NextDoor. Plus, what else do people have going on these days? An outdoor garage sale when you’re out on a walk breaks up the monotony. And since you’re moving, you probably have lots more than baby stuff to purge.

Seriously is my pipe dream THAT crazy???

Honestly we have a 23 year old babysitter who just came over and took a bunch of my old clothing (admittedly for free) like a Burberry coat and a bunch of Alo and Alala workout clothes and some Vince sweaters and she was thrilled and talked about how she consigns things and buys off consignment all the time, and I just thought, I wish I knew someone JUST like her who was pregnant so all the baby stuff I have could be appreciated by someone instead of trashed (and to be clear most of what goes to goodwill ends up in the landfill).

Clearly though I’m just coming across as a creep or a crazy person who thinks her stuff is more valuable than it is.

OP, there is nothing wrong with you wanting to try. I think it's just that some of us have tried similar things in the past, and we found that there is a flood of people out there who don't want to do it that way. Finding your drop in that flood would be a matter of luck.

You can try, and see who responds. Nothing wrong with that.

OMG, you don't have to donate it to Goodwill, just give it away on your listserv and there will be plenty of happy pregnant people or new parents who will snatch it up gratefully.

Just try Facebook market place but it won’t be as easy as you imagine and it’ll take a bit of effort to photograph stuff. Just price stuff cheaply and go from there.

OP can post the list, then, without too many details, and clarify that she is looking for one person to buy the majority of it. Then see what happens.

I'm pretty sure she's going to be getting multiple people only wanting a few of the things and trying to haggle, but she could try.

But, I’m hearing what people are saying, and I appreciate that used stuff just is t that valuable, especially if one doesn’t want to put in the effort to go through things and list them one by one.

Then just list it as a bundle and price on a listserv.
