This. I only change them or make them change if they are going to get dirt on my furniture. I’d they are just good natured dirty from being out then I am just happy they had time outside.

If I think my kid is so dirty he'll get his bed gross at nap time, I may change him. Think sand in pockets from the sand box or visible mulch or muddy/wet clothes.

But usually I'm just trying to wrestle him down, so I go with that.

if the kid naps, then i change visible dirty clothes so he doesn't get it into his bed. But no with no naps, he can walk around in dirty clothes till bath time at night.

Thank you! OP here. I just needed some validation and to feel less guilty for thinking my mom is nuts (truthfully!). She is...extra. I did change her pants only bc she had visible dirt in them, but only bc of that. Invisible dirt, nah.

We change if we have been at the playground.

I guess some of these posters would be appalled to know my dog doesn’t take her paws off at the door

Visibly dirty (muddy/sandy) we usually change but otherwise no. I think there is enough research that being “too clean” leads to allergies.

Same. We started when DS was a baby and changing after and wiping his hair down so he didn't get in his bed to nap with pollen/allergens. Still change after the park.

+1. OP's mom is crazy. I understand having clothes you don't care about for daycare or something but generally we keep the same clothes unless soaked or covered in mud. Just wash your hands before you eat, though.

In "before times" we'd only change if visibly dirty. Now, we change after playing at a playground even if not visibly dirty.

We also have better washing machines and soaps now. My kid has absolutely caked himself in mud, a little rinse and a run through the wash and it's fine. You don't have to worry about staining kids clothes because it's rare for something not to come out in the wash.
