That is part of it, but teams from Northern Europe have a high standard of living as well. They also have a deeper, longstanding relationship with the game. The fact is that in those countries they simply don't really care about women's soccer like we do. Men's soccer is so pervasive in Europe that it's like rolling our interest in American football, baseball, and basketball, and hockey into one sport.

Ha! Good one.
Fewer slide tackles, few yellow cards/warnings, fewer contact injuries, few straight red cards, fewer headed goals, fewer fights. More players leave the game because their body fails them than because of a contact injury.
What are you comparing against?
This isn't a gender comparison. It should be a girl's sports comparison.

They are winners and every girl wants to be a winner.
They identify with them.
Other girl's sports have nowhere near the publicity or watchability.
LOL NWSL has a champion every year and yes without USSF it's a failed league. USWNT is popular because they win, yes, but they win because the rest of the world doesn't care about women's sports (for the most part... especially soccer). It's slowly getting better. Sorta.
I never said why USWNT win or anything about failed pro womens leagues. I'm just stating that the USWNT is why soccer is so popular with young girls. I happen to agree with you that having very little competition on a global scale is the main factor, despite that article saying it's all about internal competition. They play a very direct brand of soccer with superior athletes (not necessarily superior technical players). Winning is winning though and they do a lot of it.
