I like them both but are you ok with your kids’ names being viewed in the same vein as “Brayden” 20 years from now? I’m not disparaging; just noting that trendy names (whether new names or “old” names) are trendy names and if you don’t want to be part of that, look elsewhere.

I always liked Viola and Violet but worried they were too similar to violate and violent. I also am a weirdo with a difficult time choosing names because of things like that.

I adore Viola. Ida is lovely, too. Unfortunately, middle school kids could make dirty jokes about Ida. (Ida do her, etc. ) Really think about how your daughter would handle that.

Don’t take a beautiful name, mangle it so sounds like the word vile. And don’t name your child the word vile with an a on the end.

I know a 6 year old Ida. Named after Ida B Wells.
I think they're both acceptable names, but I like Ida better. I'd also choose Violet over Viola, personally.

gertrude and frieda I can understand. but viola and ida don't sound as horrible to me.

we are thinking middle names and not first names. if they seem to dated or ugly, what about violet and ada instead?



I actually think Viola is back ... I've heard it a few times. I would have guessed vi-OH-la for pronunciation, though.

And Ida isn't crazy, because Ada is back.

I think both would be great middle names and I'll go ahead and vote for Viola as a first name.

I think they're both really lovely! Viola is gorgeous, Ida is spunkier. I also like Frida! I prefer these kind of names to the Oakley/Paisley/Hudson type of modern names.
