This. My parents are giving us the full court press to come visit, reiterating that they are vaccinated. While the risk to me and the kids is low, I know way too many basically healthy people including kids who have become quite ill and some with long-haul symptoms that I'll stick with the CDC's guidance to wait a bit longer until there's more information. Clearly our family is fairly risk averse, but YMMV. We've waited this long, holding out a bit longer doesn't hurt.

Which studies? It hasn't been fully examined at this point. Studies suggest that vaccinated people don't transmit illness. They also suggest that vaccinated people are unlikely to get sick, but there is still a chance. So you should be careful with your parent's health as well.

People without symptoms are much less infectious. As studies have shown, asymptomatic transmission is .7% of spread. And if you do spread Covid to your vaccinated parents, you are spreading a cold to them.

Previous immunity from COVID or from the vaccine? I think we've known that some un-vax folks are getting re-infected with variants.

Vaccines protect against severe disease and death. The reinfection rate in those previously infected and vaccinated is the same. Now, those who have been infected and fully vaccinated are probably the “safest”, but that’s not an ethical distribution of the vaccine right now.

Was it Carl Zimmer’s story regarding Brazil? First estimate was biased..people who had recovered from Covid gave blood hoping to find out if they had previously been infected. They were actually nowhere near 70% infected in general population. No evidence that reinfection is common in those vaccinated or previously infected. An infection after vaccine or a previous infection will likely be mild, and recognized by T Cells.

Seriously, yes! Thank you! Why are not more people shouting this from the rooftops? My kids are flying to see my fully vaccinated parents for spring break and I couldnt be more happy and excited. Praise the lord.

+1 to this, although we did put a stop to the visits when we re-enrolled our children in daycare after Christmas. My parents will be fully vaccinated in a week, and we will resume visits then.

Yes, the reason I haven't been seeing my parent is concern about them getting infected.

My unvaccinated parents came over all last year. They're the ones with the higher risk, they can choose whether or not to take that risk.
