It's a solid move. You're following what I think is the perfect approach to vehicle ownership: buy a high-quality versatile vehicle that you'll be satisfied with for the long haul, keep it and maintain it well for ~10 years, then sell or trade it in.

Where people get caught up with the whole "dealer says they want to buy my car and will give me a great deal on it" thing is when people trade in a 2 or 3-year-old car based on the false impression that this is some magical event they must take advantage of right now. The dealer always wants to buy everyone's car for a great deal and sell them a new one.

Dealers have been using these lines for decades. They're always sending postcards and talking up customers who come in for service saying oh we're short on used inventory and there is record-high demand for your <insert vehicle here> so we'll throw money at you just to take that 'ol thing off your hands.

What the dealer wants you to do is, they want you to come on down to the dealership and trade in your old car on a new one. They might not even keep your old car. They might wholesale it to Billy the Wholesale Guy who comes around every Thursday at three with Dunkin’ Donuts. The truth is, they’re just trying to sell some more new cars.

Nothing wrong with upgrading after getting 12 solid years of use out of a vehicle, but do it because it's the right time for you. Not because you're taking advantage of some once in a blue moon opportunity re: your old trade-in and must act now.

Car prices are CRAZY right now. I bought a Subaru SUV. It was a hair under $50k

Yeah, I’ll give up my vehicle of choice when celebs, politicians and climate activists start flying commercial, thanks.

Do you base all your decisions on what others are doing? Which influencers do you follow?

I don’t follow anyone. Which is why I do what I want, rather than what others tell me I should do.

Sorta like a politician, celebrity or climate activist, ironically.

My first HOME in the DMV was $76K. It was great but I couldn't drive it around, sadly. I sold it for 212K. A 28% return on (downpayment) investment year over year for the 4 years i owned it!

This seems to be a typo on their site- their Koons discount is entered as +$5,000 when it should likely be a -$5,000 discount I'm hoping.

No, there is no discount, they’re $5k over msrp at the moment because there is a waiting list.

because they want a body on frame SUV with a luxury interior that has a good tow rating

If that is what you want, you can get it all in a land cruiser for around the same price which will run great for much longer. Interior is nicer too.

a land cruiser is 20k more, beyond outdated, and being discontinued in the US

Or you have a big family and/or drive carpool/and/or take lots of trips by car with aforementioned family

minivans and cuvs seat the same number (or more) and pollute far less

Oh yay. You again.

You have nothing logical to say in response. Think you are smart? NP.
