This.
And the rates of disability among adults 40 and over would be through the roof, given how frequently women in those generations and older drank while pregnant.
I hope everyone who’s sanctimonious about this issue also exercised daily while pregnant, ate only the most nutrient-dense food, minimized stress, etc.
Right? All the sanctimony, forgetting that huge swaths of the human race drank alcohol when pregnant, for centuries. Drinking to excess is obviously not healthy. But in many times and places, women drank small beer and the like regularly. The reason they advise pregnant women not to drink is because (1) they don't think we can handle a nuanced message or they think that women who drink too much always think they are drinking "moderately" or whatever and (2) they can't ethically run trials to determine what a safe level of alcohol consumption is.
Also, you should add to the list of things that the sanctimommies should have avoided: driving or riding in a car. Lots of evidence that that can be VERY dangerous for the fetus.

Truth hurts sometimes though.
Anonymous wrote:Nope. I’m a drinker but I didn’t drink at all during my 3 pregnancies, although I really wanted to with my 3rd as it was summer and HOT. Still, I figured if i couldn’t sacrifice for my kids then I really had a problem.
