One question is whether it’s clear VT is your first choice. Maybe they’re tired of being a safety school? That said, some for whom it was first choice are crushed. Also, some majors are way easier to get into.

This year is going to be really weird, I feel for the class of ‘21. At VT you apply to a college within VT. As someone upthread pointed out some majors are a really tough ticket. VT used to publish the acceptance data by college but they no longer do. ENG is the toughest. Pamplin School of Business seems pretty selective too.

Their admissions team when thru sweeping changes 3-4 years ago and since then they have had some misses. In 2019 they had 1,000 more acceptances than they planned for and thus no one came of the waitlist. Not all freshman had guaranteed on campus housing that year. Last year to compensate they waitlisted thousands and then offered slots to thousands as the overseas full pay students didn’t come.

With the #of apps up at VT and other schools who knows what this year will hold. Good luck to all!

Yep, I think the 36% increase in applications is going to make results very unpredictable this year.

keep in mind---VT is a GREAT bargain for those of us in the 80-150K HHI range. so please don't rain on our parade.
cheaper then the SLACs that offer "great merit aid"

I'm sorry. Encourage her to do two years community college and reapply. The money you save will be needed later for vet school.
