Not for a pandemic but the most relaxing vacation with kids and a real break was when we were to a DR all inclusive with my parents. They watched the kids (preschooler and toddler) for multiple hours a day and a couple evenings so DH and i could swim together and have dinner by ourselves. Its not my favorite vacation but an actual break. It was my moms idea and they loved it too. My dad would read his kindle in a dark room while the kids napped even.

I’m in Fl with everyone in my immediate family (sister works in Guam), it’s not the best occasion. But the family is together (immediate) in a large rental, and we’re enjoying each other’s company while we’re all on bereavement.

I’m PP, missed this one, I’m sorry for your loss OP.

We went to the beach over the summer and went skiing this winter. It was easy and had no issues.

I’m so sorry about your brother. Glad you get to be with family. ❤️

Sorry about your brother, pp.

My husband isn’t comfortable with staying anywhere other than our home or being in other people’s homes so no real vacations this year. Honestly my vacation time is usually spent visiting family for holidays and while it’s nice to see them it can also be stressful. It’s been a few years since I’ve done something that was really a vacation for me. I have taken days off here and there.

It is really hard to travel of course.

Can you take a solo trip within two hours, and stay someplace where you know there a good cleaning policy?

I had to go to Delaware for an event. It was off season, but the hotel (a chain) was super clean and they had a lot of places that already had patio seating b/c there are beach towns (Lewes, Bethanny, Rehobeth) but you have decide what works for you.

If your kids are so young, there is a probably a lot time when someone is waking you up, up in your business, and needing to be cleaned up.

Just having a book, a grown up meal, and a bed with sheets someone else washes could be a vacation for you!

We've done a cabin rental and long weekend at the beach. Two young kids so vacations aren't really relaxing per se but it was a nice change of scenery and they had fun. But if your husband doesn't want to go anywhere, well....would he watch the kids so you could go somewhere?

How many people? That’s steep. Sorry for being invasive but the points and miles nerd in me feels the need to say there’s gotta be a cheaper way. And, as someone with family almost that far away, keeping costs down to visit more often is close to my heart.

Maybe 5 years is the perfect amount of time between visits with family. And I would also want to make such a long flight into a nice vacation. Do you really think they hadn’t thought about options to make it less expensive? Seems like you’re just here to talk about what you do and how it’s “better;” maybe you should think about what the point of your post is really for and what reaction you really want.

We have replaced our flying vacations with road trips to the beach, lake, or mountains. It’s not really relaxing per de, but change of scenery is great.

What do you need a break from? You have not altered your life in any way? Just travel and stop complaining.

We’ve done a few trips... beach for a week in September and long weekend in October. We’ve quarantined for two weeks to visit family in another state (with cousins my kids’ age whom they love) — exchanged maybe four or five visits since this started. Hoping to do some long weekends this spring, and other longer trips in the summer. We’ve been doing that kind of vacation since the kids were babies. It definitely is worth the hassle of preparing to get away.

If you want to get away yourself, just rent an Airbnb. Bring your own spa stuff and chill out.
