VA districts don’t have budget votes? Seems like we have one nearly every year in NY.

NP. They should. I would vote for more money, but change lots of things. Year round school, more academics, more arts/language/PE, 8 hour day, more special placements. I'm an elementary school parent and don't even think that's working. It's broken from the start. Normal and smart kids are completely ignored while ESOL and bad behaviors take over the classroom.

I also would like to see a move away from being tied to your local school. Local schools are either in a race to the bottom (with UMC parents moving out in droves) or a fight to get into the best pyramids. It's ridiculous that the education your child receives is based on how much you spend on your home.

Agree. I support COL adjustments (2-3%) for everyone, but raises only for essential workers (i.e., not teachers).

I would support the SPED teachers and aides who worked this fall IN PERSON getting these bonuses.

You don't have a choice in the matter. SPED teachers and aides should have a higher salary period but it doesn't mean pay raises should only apply to teachers in one area.

Exactly, teachers getting a 3% increase has nothing to do with being essential or frontline. I think people that have been in-person in frontline jobs should absolutely be receiving regular bonuses but the teacher pay increase and those bonuses aren't related.

There are plenty of VA teachers who have been in-person, some full-time. Should they not get a raise?

If you leave the northern Virginia bubble, the majority of districts are already partially or fully in person.
