Has the school evaluated dc? What is their reasoning for the ED? What support are they offering?

School has evaluated DC. We had the diagnosis for awhile from a child psychiatrist and DC had 504 plan previously that was not sufficient. most of the academic impairment, in my opinion, is caused by the severe executive functioning deficits and impulsivity. I'm thinking OHI would create less issues down the road when moving to another school, less stigma, etc. DH thinks ED designation will provide a justification for more services.

Fwiw I agree with you. Services are based on need, not category, but I’m not sure how much it ultimately matters. If you go with ED, make sure the adhd, anxiety and dmdd are spelled out in the present levels section of the document, just so everyone understands what “ED” means in this instance.

Pro: student gets the help they need, no one really cares about a diagnosis on an IEP - teachers aren’t doctors, your schedule has actual diagnoses

Con: the school may be building a paper trail for a change in placement
