I grew up in Bethesda but went to Northwestern for undergrad, and lived in and around Chicago for three years after. I moved back here for grad school, met DH, and we're raising our family here. I do love our neighborhood but sometimes I yearn for Chicagoland. It's the best, endless winters and all.

Chicagoland really is the best, especially in the spring and summer (and fall).

Not from Chicago proper but from Wheaton, IL. I moved to DC area after college and stayed. I miss Wheaton and Chicago but enjoy visiting friends and family.

Another South Sider, but not life-long! Moved here 6 years ago from DC. Love it here.

I have to agree. My situation is similar. Sweet home Chicago! When I need a cultural quick fix (music, arts, etc), I head up to NYC for a weekend. Keeps me artistically sane.

Dh and I moved to the north shore last spring from Alexandria. I had lived in Arlington/Alexandria for 10 years and he had lived there for more than 15. I grew up in the Chicago burbs but Dh was og from Pennsylvania. He does not miss DC/Nova.

Came across DCUM searching for something else several years ago, I check it once in a blue moon. I frequented the Northside Parent Network or whatever it was called, but then my kid seemed to age out of it. DCUM has so many more topics about life in general. I was born in DC, and lived quite a few places out east MD, NJ, CT, VA, then Chicago. I miss the east coast and the ocean and DH and I are thinking of retiring out east. I guess I'm officially a Chicagoan now as I've lived here longer than anywhere else.

Grew up in the Chicago suburbs (which I loved), moved away for college and grad school, lived in the city of Chicago (Old Town. LP, Lakeview) for a while after grad school, moved to DC for 6 years - where I became addicted to DCUM! - and now back in the Chicago burbs. I liked DC but live Chicago and I am living living with my family in the Chi burbs. The suburban schools are so good, Covid has been quite sane for us, work-wise, and our kids have had in person school for at least half if not while days since September. It's such an easy place to live compared to DC. I liked my time in DC and value my friendships formed there and exploring the city and area, but happy to be back.

Spent 15 years in the Chicago area. Now moved elsewhere in the Midwest.

Grew up in La Grange and went to UIUC. Lived in Lincoln Park and Lakeview after college for a bit. Moved to DC in 2010. Between kids and jobs and friends I think we're pretty committed to staying here at least until our kids graduate from high school, but I would not be opposed to moving back at all.

City resident here -- came across a thread when I was searching for something about birthday parties and occasionally pop in.

DCUM, you make me grateful for the lower housing prices and less social/economic anxiety we enjoy in Chicago.
