Actually, all the people I know who got engaged after 18 months were in their mid-20s, though I think that they were very conservative, obviously, getting married young and quickly.

FWIW, I met my DH at 29, married at 34, had my first child at 37. But I have a graduate degree and the more education you have, the older these averages tend to be.



I'm an above poster who got married at 25, baby at 29. I have a double graduate degree and DH has an MBA. We just knew what we wanted. Not everyone who marries young in uneducated.


Lol word, I was married at 25 and first baby at 29. Both my wife and I were getting our PhDs when we got married and had a baby right after we graduated.

We both had grad degrees and jobs when we met. Not uneducated as some think.

Met at work happy hour (each there from different work places/jobs) and were inseparable after that night.

This. 20-somethings might date a few years before getting engaged because they have time. Most 30-somethings I know got engaged within 6-18 months.

I have lived her for 10 years and only know one couple who met and got married in DC. They met at a party in their early 30s, dated for a year, got engaged and moved in together and got married a year later.

I know a ton of 40-50 yr olds who never married

Are those people that are from this area? Do they have grad degrees from colleges in other locations? Most of my friends were married by late twenties but at least one person in each couple grew up in DMV, went to college in the area or came back here right after college and if they have a grad degree it was someplace local like GW, UMD, Catholic etc.

Me too. For my friends who met in college or shortly after, they got married in their early to mid 20s.

I met DH at 29, we got engagaged 11 months later and then married 8 months after that when I was 30.5. He's 9 years older. Two of my very good friends who are the same age as me but were living in different parts of the country got married within 18 months of my wedding.

Both born in 1983.

Met- October 2010
Engaged - July 2012
Married- October 2013
Baby #1- October 2016
Baby #2 - January 2019

I think our path was pretty normal (age and timing/progression wise) in our social and professional circles.

Adding, we were one of the first to get married in our circle. Most got married about 3-4 years later.
