I mean, that would be great to focus more time rather than the working parent juggle, but she will be all "show me the money" before I quit, so I need a clear plan.

What do you do?

The most I have ever applied for in a job seeking cycle is maybe 15. I usually have interview rates of 50-90%.

I am CPA, run an accounting team at a tech company. Make 200k with bonus.

Am I wrong in thinking that could pay more than $200k (at like Salesforce or Google or something?).

I know many people must be making these numbers, as we see people buying crazy expensive houses and the wives SAH or have part time yoga gigs. But what I am doing wrong?



Why is this the goal? I live in DC, where most families make good money because they're highly educated and dual-income.

There was one guy who put $50k into Gamestop and turned it into $22M+. Risk vs reward principle.

Sounds like you are a conservative guy in a conservative job. Own it. Like a previous poster said. Your leverage is time. You have to wait your turn.

Or, and I'm not saying you have to gamble like the Gamestop guy did but you have to increase your personality risk profile. Look at what you said about your wife - she won't quit her job until I do this X and Y. Both of your are so conservative. Learn to be uncomfortable and take on some career risk. You won't find a $300k job in your next job but your next job could position you for a $300k job.

A friend of mine makes 250K as marketing vise president. She has no MBA and started at her firm as a temp at $35/hr 4 years ago.

DW ($500K+) is in biglaw, and I ($230K) have an MBA and work in marketing.

You simply can't become rich working for someone else. Even if you do make a lot of money, it will wear you off. Wealth is determined by your assets. NOT salary.

Get to know local real estate brokers in DC. Get to know bank managers for fast loans processing. Ask brokers for regular updates on all 2-3 units investment real estate townhouses in good areas. Buy something at a mm, invest 200K, and rent it out. With balloon mortgage loan it will pay off in 10 years. At your 300K salary you can buy 2 projects like that and become asset rich in 10 years, adding net rental income to your salaries

we didn't break $200,000 until mid 40s. Comfortable now at $350,000. It just takes time and lots of effort

Well, I currently have a job, so 5-8 a day would be ridiculous assuming you actually customize something for it.

I apply for DC and California and Colorado (family is in all 3 places). But honestly needs to be DC b/c DW won't quit job until my new gig is steady (she grew up poor b/c her dad was unemployed in his 40s and never found another job).

My H's job is super high stress and risky. Mine is sweet, I agree, but I had to get 10 million degrees and certifications to get here. Nothing is easy, unless one is born into serious $$$$.
