The teachers will not have the second dose by then. I'm not saying teachers need to be vaccinated to reopen. I'm just stating facts.
Yes they will. Dose 2 is on 2/15.
I work for FCCPS and have not been given an appointment day or time for the second dose. Have you? 2/15 is 4 weeks after the first dose. I would love to hear that they scheduled the second one for us.

The surge is coming back down and has been for about a week now.
That's incorrect. Where did you read that? Kimberly Adams' facebook page? The important number is the 7 day percent positivity rate. That has been steadily and slowly dropping.

I “can” get my 2nd dose 2/21. They wouldn’t schedule it because of supply uncertainty and told me hopefully someone would call me. This is not a guaranteed date.
Since July, our scientific understanding of COVID has increased significantly, as has our understanding of degrees of risk in schools, and we can now recommend that schools be open even at the very high levels of spread we are now seeing, provided that they strictly implement strategies of infection control. Evidence supports the view that student, staff, and educator risk can all be brought to acceptably minimal levels with robust infection control practices when implemented in a collaborative and transparent way among all stakeholders, including educators and other school personnel, administrators and district leaders, families, and students.

Good lord. So the hell with CDC school based recommendations. Free market? Government plays no role in determining public safety so long as you have the option to stay home?? Wow.
Good gracious, there's so much case law in the US that says that states are the ones who control both education and public health it's not even funny.
So if districts meet VDH/VDOE guidance, they can open. AFAIK, most districts represented here are working from that guidance. That guidance is based on study after study after study of open schools showing that it's safer to be in school that to be out doing many other things.

VA’s politcal compromise on school opening doesn’t make it wise. We also don’t do enough testing in Va. Dr. Northam is not exactly impressive Thought FCC was better than that.
