Self-contained classrooms and summer swim have nothing in common. Year round swim as shown you can safely hold multi-team swim meets indoor so why wouldn’t you be able to do outdoor meets?

Kids aren’t in school because FCPS sucks, not because it’s not doable. Plenty of kids are in school safely, many who swim in summer leagues.

Club teams have been running safe indoor meets for months. There is no good reason that they cannot run a safe outdoor meet. B meets may need to be limited in size, but the A meets can be run safely.

I don't disagree that it can be done, but one big difference is that club teams have automatic timing, which means one timer per lane as a back up is fine. Fitting three people in a seven foot wide lane is introducing close contact, and without three people, the times can't be official (at least for NVSL, not sure the other leagues). Does NVSL take the risk assuming people are getting vaccinated or change the rules so only one time is needed?

This is true, but the timers only need to be close together at the finish. At winter meets, the timers stand back and spread out until swimmers approach the wall. And most adults should be vaccinated by summer.

This is a consideration. It can be changed for the season.

Right now the goal is for the NVSL to have a summer season. Be patient. The Return to Competition Committee meets for the first time tomorrow. Be willing to think outside the box. I know some people automatically think about what it "normally" looks like, but there is a good chance changes will be made.

That is a bummer. The pool was our saving grace.

The kids being vaccinated should not even be considered for a minute. If we could do it last year then it should happen this year. If indoor swim has happened since June then outdoor should happen. And all kids were unvaccinated.

This is the crap being thrown out in the teacher debate and schools will not go back for years if they demand kids be vaccinated. Despite the fact that THOUSANDS of teachers and students have been in school throughout the country.

BTW high school swim used 1 timer per lane timing in each hand and two head timers.

Why not just allow one timer per lane in the summer. Like, what difference does it make?

Our team can't pay coaches without our B team kids. We have 200 kids on our team. And frankly, it would be unfair to run a summer swim program with just A meets. Not really in the spirit of summer swim.

I'm curious to see how that will work. Having been on our pool's board, we need the b team swimmers paying their fees in order to be able to afford our two coaches as well as our teen assistant coaches. If you curtail b meets, I wonder if you can still hold onto enough of the kids who are no longer going to any meets to fund to team. Winter swim is already operating at a loss and I doubt the pool as a whole will want to subsidize the swim team indefinitely

I really hope so, but we have an enormous swim team so Im not sure how they would pull off the B meets.
