The center is a little different in texture but really is not noticed when chewing. When I cut up apple for my kids, I take off the stem and cut the whole thing up and remove the seeds. You don’t have to cut the middle out, it’s just wasted apple if you do. (I know OP was talking about child eating the stem and seeds but felt this was a good location to educate and try to get others to stop believing the lie of the apple core.)

+1. Also=If we're going through a lot of apples in a day, we take the extras and use them to make drinks or to bake into something for flavor.

I wouldn't worry even about eating a lot in one day. I'm someone who eats all the apple except the stem (I actually love the seeds!), and when I was small, I would eat upwards of 24 apples in a day and I was fine!

Thank you all for the reassurance! Toddler seems fine but I’ll be using the special tool to remove the cores moving forward

My toddler used to do this all the time. He loved apples and demolished them. We had to grab the stems away from him, but there were plenty of times he ate them first. He is fine.

My Australian husband always ate the core of the apple until he moved overseas and realized it wasn't done.

Entire article about eating apple cores.

Here's the article they linked about eating article cores:

https://www.wired.com/2016/09/heres-many-apple-cores-take-poison/

It basically says that one core isn't a problem, but that conceivably, a crazy toddler (said with love, they're all crazy) who ate a ton of seeds could get sick.

Given that my kid would sometimes go on a food jag and eat lots of a favorite food, and I could imagine him choosing to eat a half dozen apples in a day, I might remove the cores going forward. But I wouldn't worry about one apple.

I often eat the entire apple. I never had any issues. Your toddler will be fine.
