Well, there was the black face thing. He's pretty ineffective in general and not charistmatic at all. And he has totally botched Covid IMO. He should have been more restrictive on people's activities and prioritized getting kids back in school. He's also totally botched the vaccine rollout.
Why would any of those things be a reason to vote republican? Republican governors have done all those things too.
OP, you seem not so bright. Northam is moderate - if you dont want anyone to the left of him, then maybe you’re a Republican.
I’m not a Northam fan, but OP is clearly someone who has little knowledge of Northam or his policies and probably parroting something s/he heard. I would let this thread die.
OP here. I guess I did not express myself well. I want someone similar to Northam in moderateness (is that a word?) but a more effective leader/state executive.

There are almost no voters for the GOP elite. Why would Republicans pick someone that they can’t get votes for?

Most of what you posted is personal to Northam and isn’t about politics. As for the COVID response, his plan was more in line with what the Republicans wanted, not the Democrats. If you want a stronger response to close down businesses and reopen schools, you need someone further left, not right.
No. Leftists are not in favor of opening schools. They just do what the teachers unions/associations want. I think schools should have been prioritized from the beginning and we should have closed whatever else was neccessary to accomplish that. Instead Northam thinks its fine for people to eat and drink indoors until midnight, but not after midnight.
:waves: Leftist here, in favor of opening schools. Will happily pay bars and restaurants to stay shut.
But it's not Northam's fault that Nova schools are closed. The local districts made those decisions, and other schools in VA are open.

Also the general assembly is very far right. If we don’t have a democratic governor, we will get all sorts of awful laws passed. Say what you want about Northam but he saved us a lot of trouble with his veto power.
As your question, I think we could get a normal Republican. But maybe not. It’s hard to say because it seems like a lot of republicans are fed up with maga stuff right now, and many in northern Virginia have never been Maga types
There aren't any anymore. Either they're maga types, or they tolerated maga types out of expediency or fear, or they're former Republicans.
In a way I agree. They were completely complicit and I think remaining in the Republican Party is a morally bankrupt thing to do. However, a lot of republicans oppose, in theory, Trumpism, and their legislative record is more in what would traditionally called moderate.
Kirk Cox is in the race for the governor and I would not call him a Maga type. In fact the GOP changed their method of nominating a gubernatorial candidate so that they won’t get a trumpet in the race.
But I sure as hell hope we get a Democrat.
