Please give specific examples of actions northam took or failed to take that exhibit his failure of effective leadership. This is such a fing bs complaint I’d like support.

Most of what you posted is personal to Northam and isn’t about politics. As for the COVID response, his plan was more in line with what the Republicans wanted, not the Democrats. If you want a stronger response to close down businesses and reopen schools, you need someone further left, not right.

No. Leftists are not in favor of opening schools. They just do what the teachers unions/associations want. I think schools should have been prioritized from the beginning and we should have closed whatever else was neccessary to accomplish that. Instead Northam thinks its fine for people to eat and drink indoors until midnight, but not after midnight.

But it's not Northam's fault that Nova schools are closed. The local districts made those decisions, and other schools in VA are open.

Telling them they are allowed to open and telling them TO OPEN are not the same thing. He could be more forceful.

The Republican Party is MAGA today.

Even decades ago the GOP dogwhistled to get today’s MAGA voters. Read about Lee Atwater, who confessed the scheme he used when he ran campaigns for Reagan and later GHW Bush.

The GOP needs MAGA. Almost no one would vote for tax cuts for billionaires without being distracted by lies and white identity politics.

McAuliffe and McClellan are both centrist Democrats - basically Northam with either more experience (McAuliffe) or more charm (McClellan), but less personal baggage.

Carroll Foy is running based purely on identity politics and Carter is a far-left socialist (think AOC, but running in VA rather than NY, and with no charisma). They should split the far-left progressive votes and make it easier to McAuliffe to get nominated again.

On the Republican side, Cox is like a Gym Jordan and Chase is Q-Anon level crazy, so neither deserves serious consideration. Apparently, Glenn Youngkin, a former Carlyle exec, is now going to try and get the Republican nomination and can self-fund his campaign, but the Rs are picking their nominee by convention rather than primary. No idea if that helps or hurts him.

Northam isn't keeping schools closed- the issue has been left to local governments and plenty have opened schools.

because closing businesses for the betterment of public schools is a right wing trait? Can you point to a single republican governor who made that choice?

There aren't any anymore. Either they're maga types, or they tolerated maga types out of expediency or fear, or they're former Republicans.

In a way I agree. They were completely complicit and I think remaining in the Republican Party is a morally bankrupt thing to do. However, a lot of republicans oppose, in theory, Trumpism, and their legislative record is more in what would traditionally called moderate.

Kirk Cox is in the race for the governor and I would not call him a Maga type. In fact the GOP changed their method of nominating a gubernatorial candidate so that they won’t get a trumpet in the race.

But I sure as hell hope we get a Democrat.
