Flint Hill, different from other private schools in the area, has several kids with IEPs/learning disabilities. Not necessarily a bad thing... great option especially if your kid has one. They do a good job educating those kids and neuro typical kids.

+1 I know multiple families who pulled their kids out of Nysmith for Flint Hill.

I will tell you as a current parent there is zero tolerance for bullying. FWIW, they admitted a large number of public school students this year who aren’t used to behaving well in a classroom environment. There was some friction but it’s been worked out.
As for leaving and going to nysmith that made me laugh out loud. The school had so many nysmith transplants it became a joke for us current families. Current family. Our kid is thriving, but don’t feel that it is an academically rigorous school. We have other complaints, but those might be the same at other schools (really unkind teasing and social norms, etc)

We are disappointed with the academic environment there, but it may be that other families are not - people choose private schools for many different reasons.


Follow up here to this PP - what was the teasing about? Is there bullying or other issues that would dissuade you? I have a very shy, introverted child who is applying this year and private school makes me nervous for this reason.

Nysmith only goes to 8th grade, so they have to go somewhere for high school. Nysmith has a stronger program, so they put their children there until graduation.

Our family left Flint Hill for another private school, so we actually support and prefer private. It is a long commute for us, but our children are much happier and much more challenged. I think you are incorrect about these alleged trolls who have no connection to FHS and yet have formed a “hate group” to disparage it.
