I can’t speak for others but I saw on CBS news that only 42% of African Americans intend to get the vaccine. There are of course historical reasons for this. Seeing as the vast majority of teachers/staff in DCPS are people of color I’d venture to say that PP isn’t alone.

I would dearly hope a credentialed teacher would be able to understand the science of the vaccine...

I dearly hope you understand history. If you don’t understand PPs comment is not about science, you need to do some research.

Dp: I understand the history and the mistreatment that recalls, but it should also be quite evident that this scenario is not like that history. Thinking people should be able to see the difference.

You're speaking from a place of privilege. This isn't about logic but history and coincidentally Covid has affected Black people (and Brown) the most, not due to genetics but as a direct result of this country's HISTORY.

I hope if you have doubts about the vaccine that you reach out to a physician you trust for more information. This is important for all of us.

I am planning to go back in person and delay getting the vaccine if offered.

That makes sense, as someone half black I still am hesitant at the doctors and have been denied tests, I hate having to say, "Please send me a legal document saying you denied 'x' test," just to get bloodwork tests done...the bias against black people in the medical field is still there.

But I don't think they would create a vaccine to hurt us in 2020...but I still feel hesitant.

Just like the parents at my school, if you have noticed most parents who aren't in ward 3 or 6 don't want in person learning, not because they don't value, want, or need it but they're scared or they'd rather have others try the CARES classrooms first and see how that turns out.

I will get the vaccine but I will be seeing how others react to it.

I wonder if MD and VA are going to supply vaccines like they plan to do for healthcare workers. Many DCPS teachers don’t actually live in the district.

I want to know if we are going to be able to ensure everyone working with kids gets the vaccine. Unless they have a actual medical reason we are a high risk family and can't risk kids being in class with adults that refuses to get the vaccine.

DCPS is not going to mandate a vaccine. They have already stated that.

I’m a DCPS teacher and I won’t be taking the vaccine.

Will you be returning to the classroom or claiming you can’t?

Not pp. Why this question? I'm a sped teacher and our admin said none of us are returning (at our school). So I actually cannot.

I think it’s a general question. Most people know this year is pretty much shot. But by Fall if you have the opportunity to have been vaccinated, and you should, there shouldn’t be exemptions to stay home unless medically indicated that you couldn’t receive the vaccination. At that point either get vaccinated or risk getting COVID, but back to work. My workplace will likely mandate it, but I have no qualms getting it and am looking forward to my turn.

Yeah if you have allergy issues you are told not to take it or wait until they know more. But you wrote it like you don’t trust science

A friend is high risk and would be put on the priority list. But she has the allergy issue so now she will wait until the very end. Sigh.
