I had a SIL who would throw stuff out even if it was what the girls wanted. I started just taking them shopping.

Maybe it is the kids who are not crazy about the toys?

My white brunette DD did NOT want any blonde dolls when she was little. She would pitch them and preferred dolls that had brown hair, or were hispanic or black. She felt they looked more like her!

Or maybe mom just really wants her kids to connect with their roots?

Ask for suggestions! Books, art supplies, games that require thinking skills - all possibilities that Mom would go for and the kids would enjoy.

I have disposed of a toy gift or two over the years. A well meaning elderly uncle bought my DD a toy that was basically called "Lil' Hottie" and looked like a Weeble prostitute. LOL! He had no idea, was just trying to be kind, but not exactly the kind of toy we were looking for... So ask the parents. Then take their suggestions!

How about art supplies? Crayola makes packages of multicultural crayons and markers in different skin tones. Construction paper, too, I think.

You should ask your SIL to put together a wish list. When the kids are older, ask them directly what they want or to work with their parents to put together a wish list.

Also, OP, your disdain for SIL is so apparent. It's very clear you don't like her.

Many mom's don't want their young girls playing with Barbie. Many are against the LOL surprise due to the change in outfits in cold water - sexy lingerie.

The little people I don't understand.

A good aunt would ask the children what they want or ask the mom for gift ideas, instead of dictating the type of toys she thinks children the should have. Her kids, not yours.
