No, but do you think they are capable of gut renovating a school in 9 months when they haven’t even started yet?
Yes. Six years ago, the whole school was fully renovated in 10 weeks. It was one of the last "summer blitz" renovations before DCPS turned to using swing spaces.
As long as DGS and DCPS adhere to a realistic timeline, it will be ready by August 15th.
But that required planning. And wasn't during a pandemic.
DCPS cannot afford to move the whole school into a swing space AND renovate the building in 2021.
And the building must be repaired.
They know they have to stick to the repair timeline because the swing space option is not an option.

Why is swing space not an option?
Because it's budgeted out 1-2 years in advance of the planned beginning of a project, so it is highly unlikely there is any space remaining that is remotely suitable even setting aside all the COVID complications.
Well then they better get that construction started then! Cause if not, I fear we are headed for a move Kindergarten to Watkins plan and another year of distance learning for PK3/PK4. But I'm not convinced they can't figure out another space in an emergency....
They can move K to Watkins and not offer Pk3 or 4 for a few years. Those are not required grades.

It doesn't seem like any work has begun at Peabody. I'm a parent and walk by the school regularly. I wouldn't count on it opening next year. A building sitting with water damage is a lot of mold. I really hope I'm wrong.

When Watkins was renovated, DPR said they would not allow the fields/trailers to be a swing space option which is why Watkins went
to Elliot Hine for a year.
Fair point. Forgot about that. Then put the trailers at RFK. If there’s a necessity, they’ll find a way.
