I would be so happy if my husband made that much in salary, OP. He’s chronically underemployed due to severe ADHD. Our HHI is much lower than this.

My 49 yo husband makes $125k and I’m currently a freelancer but typically bring in $140-150k. We are essentially in the same do-Goode field and specialty. I do understand the compulsion to compare to family members. But for us, we are secure knowing we live well within our means and provide a great life for our two kids. Many people work more, Orin less satisfying jobs and make more, but they’re miserable. I’m able to sit on my ass now not working but helping Kids with distance learning because we are fortunate to have financial security. I will find work after covid because I’m determined to and have always worked. I guess my advice to you is the same as my advice to myself. Comparisons are interesting but they are just one data point. Others are more important, are you happy with the current balance in your household? Would a small or large increase in income be worth the additional strain in terms of the joy or stability it creates?

In our case, we are always thinking of upgrading to a new house, even though we love our house and it’s been a great investment and very convenient. We somehow think we should be in a more family friendly neighborhood with more kids. But that move would require both of us to have stable well paying jobs.

I have cousins that make more but make very different decisions, like private school, living in San Francisco, unfortunately dealing with divorce, etc. they have other factors we do not, so all things are not equal. A happy, healthy (knock wood) family is worth so much. You are fortunate. I am too,

I have to agree. This post is absurd.

You should see how it would go over in money and finances though - they would say it was a horrible salary.

I made that at 25 in engineering... He is doing it wrong. Has he switched jobs lately? That really is the only way to make a meaningful salary increase.
