Also, I would disown a child who worked worked for the Trump administration and would divorce DH of he worked for this evil man.

You could visit your child in prison/remain in contact knowing they were convicted of pedophilia, rape and/or murder? Speaking that they were 100% guilty.

So, mostly about you then?

Our neighbors have a son who is a convicted rapist. I don’t know the details, but it was bad since he was sentenced to 20+ years and wears an ankle monitor. He still lives with them for periods of time, they protect him from the other neighbors who want him out, and from what I’ve overheard, he walks all over his parents and treats them terribly. But they still tolerate it.

I would need to distance myself for pedophilia, rape, and similar.
By serious crime, I mean anything that causes serious injury/long-term consequences.
I think it's understandable that you would distance yourself in those cases. If you don't mind me asking, why? Would it be because of the social stigma, or because you would need to protect yourself and your family from them?
It would be because of the strong, overwhelming surge of hatred and disgust I feel for pedophiles and rapists. Would YOU be able to remain in the life of a man who, for example, raped a baby? Murdered somebody for the fun of it? Etc. There are some crimes that invalidate a person's worth as a human being.
