I didn't even consider that. Thank you.
Don’t worry about it OP. Let your kid take it when he wants to. The PP to whom you’re responding probably has a junior that jumped a bunch of seniors (who were desperate to take it) when she took it in October.
I'm the PP that mentioned this and my Junior hasn't had a PSAT or SAT yet that wasn't cancelled. We are really concerned. I'm really upset to hear that people who already took it have registered for retakes when kids who didn't get to take yet can't get a spot at all!
There are spots. You have to be willing to travel and willing to reserve seats in advance and willing for test centers to be closed. If people have registered for retakes, then they will also cancel these retakes if they don't need it. Students know 3 weeks after taking the SAT whether they will need to retake or not.
As for the NMS PSAT for 11th graders, not many students reach the PSAT scores that necessitates them to take a qualifying ACT/SAT. Students who takes PSAT in Jan, will know by mid Feb that they will need to or not need to take any further "proof" SAT or not. No one who does not need the retake remains registered. We were able to register because people cancelled and spaces became available. But, yes. You do have to check the site pretty frequently and see if spaces are available.
I think that the current seniors had it tough because the pandemic took all of us by surprise. Now we all have adjusted. I like that the PSAT is in January instead of October logistically. Seniors should get the first dibs. Majority of students know that they do not have too many opportunities to retake and so people are timing it right and trying to be 'one and done'. Juniors may do better by taking it in Spring instead of Fall. This gives them more time to prep too.
Khan Academy is awesome. You do not need anything else to prep.
