Ask them if they are getting an insurance policy to cover the long term medical bills for any guests who might become ill.

Decline the invite and then the day before the event tip off the local health department.

I’d decline and express concern that if they do it as scheduled they should expect to see the health dept there.

I would call the health dept.

If it's against the law, report it to the county department of health or the department that handles reports about this in your area.

It would be weird if someone were to claim a false dichotomy, in that it was either policed lockdown or nothing except totally normal life. Of course, it's good that nobody is trying to pull those shenanigans.

If there is a global pandemic of an infectious disease, with hospitals across the country at a stressed point, it will never be a good idea to hold non-essential parties in person.

If enough people just send regrets, they'll get the message. But if they haven't already internalized the idea that a huge party is a bad idea, nothing you say is going to make the light bulb go off.

Yes. Everybody knows this is not a good idea by this point. If they are doing it, there is an obstreperous and defiant element to it.

You have to drop the rope. Lecturing them just riles them up more and gives them that juicy sense of being oppressed. Just give a polite and pared-down no, and let it go. Take the wind out of those sails.

I think they know some people think it’s a bad idea. Clarifying that you’re among those people won’t change anything.
