OP here. I would probably be stuck paying a significant amount of alimony due to our particular situation. So now I feel even more ridiculous for marrying this man since I am better off staying married and being unhappy.

You don’t always have to pay it for life. I received a meager amount for two years, and you can negotiate anything outside of the court. I know a couple of people (VA, MD) who didn’t have a judge decide for them, one of them was a nasty divorce and they were still able to settle out of court.

You don’t always have to pay it for life. I received a meager amount for two years, and you can negotiate anything outside of the court. I know a couple of people (VA, MD) who didn’t have a judge decide for them, one of them was a nasty divorce and they were still able to settle out of court.

Oh and her ex was cheating on her with a woman in every town (he worked and traveled for the FAA). But the var to prove it is too high and doesn't impact alimony.

I know a woman in CA who got stock paying alimony after she divorced her husband for cheating on her. They had made around the same amount earlier in their marriage as CPAs but then he went to law school using marital assets and became a local prosecutor. So she put him through law school, he got a lower paying job, he cheated on her, and she wound up paying alimony
