I don't piss away money on luxury cars that can't do anything more than a honda civic does, and I don't buy a 5000-6000 sq ft home because I don't need it. I'm rich because I don't spend and just invest it.

I’ve never used CL but there is an item listed for sale elsewhere for $550k that is only worth 300k. I’m not going to haggle, but I’m not going to buy it until the price drops. No one else will either, so I’m safe from losing out. If you can’t get the price you are asking, then your item just isn’t worth it to start with. In my experience, the ones asking for a discount are the same ones trying to sell overpriced crap.

I list items slightly higher because I expect haggling actually. It's all part of the buying used experience in my opinion. It makes people feel better to come down a bit too.

Upper middle professionals, not rich, I find nothing offensive at all by sayi g politely in an e mail to a seller "I am very interested in x and was wondering if this is your best price. I was wondering if you would accept y. Thanks so much." Sometimes they say yes, sometimes they say no. But it's all polite...if that's haggling, so be it. Both parties have choices. I am on craigslist all the time, btw....my house is lovely. No shame at all in shopping or selling there.

It’s the foreigners who mostly haggle. I can’t even bring myself to haggle and don’t respond to haggle messages. I post stuff very cheap though.

I had a clean schwinn kids bike for sale for $5 and some guy offered me $3. So irritating. I felt like it was already a super fair price and it sold that afternoon.

what's the problem in haggling? It's all supply and demand balance. You would only be interested in taking a lower offer if your item is not selling at the existing price.

I have relatives outside of 'this' area who are loaded and also cheap as f--k. It's psychological, OP, their money in the bank is the one and only point of their existence and they can't bear the thought of parting even with the smallest amount. Hence haggling, eating crappy food, etc.

Not rich but I live in a "rich" neighborhood. I use Craigslist and have bought a few items but mainly use it to either sell items or give them away in the Free section. I only haggle when a seller is unrealistic about what their item is worth, which is most of them.
