You wouldn't need a full, dug foundation. Post and pier should suffice. Our entire family room addition was done this way so a mudroom shouldn't be a problem.

Please, share your contractor's name. We got a $75k quote for a simple screened in porch (like PP, shed roof and no fancy extras.) I'd love to find someone who would only charge $40k at this point. That would feel like a bargain!

I wonder, too. That website doesn’t show a full screened porch structure with a roof that is integrated into the house like others are talking about.

It’s not just lumber — we had a terrible time getting any kind of mill work this summer. Hardware is in short supply, even things like doorknobs. In any case, supply and demand works for contractors, too. They’re all super busy and can name their price. Not to mention that Covid social distancing precautions make things more difficult and time consuming.

Yes, prices have skyrocketed, but let's be honest there is not much material that is needed. Pre-Covid, it maybe cost you $4-5,000 to sheathe a house in OSB or plywood for example. post Covid, maybe 7-8,000. Yes, lumber costs more money, but its not like its doubled in cost OR that lumber is a substantial part of the costs.
