Absolutely do NOT do this. If you are going to do Sassafras spell it correctly! Those just look pretentious and weird and poor kid having to spell it all the time to people.
I think Sassafras is ok, but I would worry about all the ways kids could cruelly tease her with this name. I think Sassy has negative connotations and would not be comfortable with this nick name. Overall no. but especially NO to bizarre spellings.
