Each MRM team operates pretty independently. Practice location/type of fields is team specific.

Several people have mentioned that reams operates differently and with different costs.

In this regard, what’s the benefit of being part of a statewide or nationwide club of Maryland Rush or Rush respectively?

Maybe 1-2 teams per age group and was really hard to make a team now it is all about money and lets make as many teams as we can per group.

The above is spot on.

Unless you are British, I would try avoid using idioms like “spot on” and “innit” and whatever other anglicisms people feel compelled to use when discussing football. It invites the sneers of we Brits, though certainly never face-to-face. Same with the rank American journalists who adore using “presser.” Like, totally gag us with a spoon.

Agree too. Travel soccer is all about the money.

I hope you realize MRM has Rec, Select (Classic) and Travel, but MRM’s travel program is bigger and better than that of MSI. MSI is better than MRM for Rec and Classic.

I never understood the difference between "select/classic" and travel. Haven't seen that any of the VA clubs. Is that just higher level rec? Please explain. TIA.

rec - which many kids play for fun or just start out in. They have a MSI rec league and many travel players play in it to play with their friends from their neighborhood or school.

Classic - little higher level - most kids many do classic because they want to play more and get better, typically more practices per a week vs rec, and the level is a little better. Typically coaches have ussf license but sometimes it is a "dad" coaching.

Travel - your Bethesda, Potomac, MRM clubs. Way more serious 3-4 practice a week may more tournaments and leagues are all over the places.

This is also a way for a "club" to in travel to go to classic or rec games and be able to "recruit" a player that might stand out and bring them to their club. Sometimes those players can't afford club soccer or just didn't know what to do to sign up.

Lastly, some "clubs" provide "rec" and "classic" level to have a bigger pool of players in their club to help lower cost. Bethesda and Columbia do this well.

Curious, what are you talking about re Bethesda? There is no rec or classic level. I do believe Columbia does this but in MoCo, I don't know anything other than MSI and to a lesser extent SAM. Bethesda and Potomac most certainly do not.

NP. Potomac kinda do though. Brit-Am is basically run by the same people and they have MSI Classic teams. My kid was asked to join Potomac by his Brit-Am coach so while they are not using it lower costs they certainly are using it to recruit players.

Select for instance in MSI Classic is an internal MSI house league. The level of play and competition higher than Rec. Coaches are either parent coaches or paid coaches. No travel is involved.

Hardly, but. Maybe your kid will make it next year.
