I am a naturally thin person who does not work at it, and that’s explicitly why I feel strongly about not fat shaming people and not assuming I know anything about someone else’s health or weight.
I also have a mom who was naturally thin like me for most of her life, and has struggled with obesity and related issues (joint problems and diabetes) for decades now. I know people think it’s her fault and due to her diet, but from my close up vantage point it’s very obvious that her diet changed little, but that the combination of menopause and depression has the biggest impact on her weight and health. She doesn’t need a lecture about her diet— she needs better medical care and better access (and less stigma) to mental healthcare.
But I’m sure most people on here will tell me no, it’s just that she lacks willpower.
