Between the kids who’ve gone private and the kids who just plain don’t log in anymore, my kid’s public school cohort has gotten pretty small too. Not complaining, he’s doing great.
This is true. My kid's NW DC public is down to 15 kids in my child's class. It's actually turning out to be an incredible year.
We also have a kid in a top DC private (older grade). We're paying $49K this year (all-in) and have received 4 in-person days so far. About $12K per day. LOL
I have to laugh or I'll cry.
Anecdotes do not equal data. Stop generalizing based on your experience.

Just bemused at how fragile they are that they thought they couldn’t tolerate a year of public school distance learning.
People are soft these days, it’s mind-boggling.
And I have a kid with special needs. I know what real child-rearing struggle looks like.

Hope you like paying your big fat tuition bill for nothing!
Fwiw, we hired a tutor rather than doing private and our tutor will of course continue to come and even increase her hours. So I don't really have a dog in this particular fight. Just been cringing at how superior the private school parents think they are.

And the last months have been awesome in terms of education, getting to know their teachers, seeing other kids, etc. Very happy with what is happening.
