If your kids are over 6, they are required to wear a mask in public places... whether you like it or not.
Maybe you are right, but I prefer to be extra careful and make sure my kids 7 and 5 wear masks when outside

In the DC playground we visit, I have never seen an adult without a mask or kids over 6... occasionally you will see some 3-4 year old unmasked, but it’s rare. Kids under 2 (like my son) are all unmasked

I am a very frequent Arlington and Fairfax county playground goer. I am home with an insanely active 5 and 2 year old. It’s my lifeline.

Anyhow, Things are changing compared to this summer as far as frequency of masks. I am more cautious now that cases have risen higher than spring. I think most “sane” people feel this way. My summer logic was case counts were low, humidity and sunshine made transmission less likely, and my kids aren’t big talkers, more like run and jump like crazy people.

I now wear my mask outside which I’ve been doing basically this week. I feel it’s overkill but whatever. I make my kids wear masks when we go to “big” playgrounds outside our neighborhood or when a close friend is at the park as well and I know they will talk more. They don’t wear masks at our “daily” playground which we go to mostly in the morning and mostly see no one.


Anyhow, Fairlington this Sunday almost everyone had masks. Go to smaller playgrounds at off hours, (in the morning basically) and there are very few people.

Try the playgrounds in Upper NW. only kids not wearing masks are the really little ones. The one at the Palisades rec Center is a good one and not far from VA.

In the few NW DC playgrounds we frequent easily 90-100 percent of the kids and caregivers/parents have masks. The ones who don’t see glared at. Literally. Not sure what’s wrong with the folks in Md and DC. We are religious with hand hygiene and bring water and paper towels for rinsing dirt off DD’s hands before we use Purell. She knows not to touch her face and get near other kids and tells them to stand back because of covid. Our pediatrician is fine with this - I asked her yesterday and we discussed it. She said she may change her opinion as community spread rises.

I didn't ask if there was exposure from running past someone one foot away, but thanks for telling me something I already know. I specifically said sharing playground equipment, like waiting for the slide next to one another, etc. Do people think kids don't spread it still?

Kids spread it, but just have your kid wait a distance behind the next kid. They're not going to get it waiting 30 seconds from 3 feet away unmasked.

Most playgrounds in Capitol Hill DC everyone is wearing masks.
