Those are MYS rules at MYS fields only.

MYS Families,

This past weekend VA Governor Northam issued additional temporary restrictions due to COVID-19 which pertain to spectators at sporting events. Below is the excerpt from Exec Order 67 - Phase 3 Further Adjusting of Certain Temporary Restrictions due to Novel Coronavirus 19:

13. Recreational Sports

Indoor and outdoor recreational sports activities are permitted, provided participants and organizers of recreational sports activities comply with the following requirements:

· a. The total number of spectators cannot exceed the lesser of 30% of the occupancy load of the certificate of occupancy for the venue, if applicable, or 25 spectators per field. Races or marathons may have up to 250 participants, provided staggered starts separate runners into groups of 25 or less.

· Conduct screening of coaches, officials, staff and players for COVID-19 symptoms prior to admission to the venue/facility.

What does this mean for our program?

After discussing the new restrictions with club directors, other clubs, and county officials the following policy will be enforced effective immediately and until further notice:

· Only coaches, players, team staff, referees, and club officials will be permitted to attend events at MYS facilities.

· No spectators will be permitted at the field during MYS events. This includes any space outside of fenced-off fields.

· Spectators will be allowed to accompany their son/daughter to and from the field but must remain in their cars until the game has ended.

· MYS families should abide by any and all rules in place at non-MYS venues.

· MYS families should continue to adhere to screening, face-mask and social distancing protocols.

We recognize this is less than ideal for our teams but the no spectator policy will ensure compliance with the new restrictions and allow teams to continue to play.

The good news is that the protocol change comes at a time when our event schedule is winding down. We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated of any changes.

the club one of my kids play for said no spectators at all while at our home venue.

Bethesda Showcase said 1 spectator per player, but was not enforced during the girls showcase...wonder if it will be different at the boys?

We were just told one person per player by our club

Impossible to enforce at most fields. Parents will drop of their DD/DS and then the other parent park somewhere else. Unless the ref is going to count then card teams until they comply or forfeit, parents will just space out around the parking lot or at another field. For those fields with one entry/exit, a little easier to enforce, but our club, that isn't the case.


Refs have been told we're not responsible for enforcing social distancing, masks and the like.

Which is too bad, because then I could've thrown out an entire team's parents before a game and saved a lot of trouble down the road.

I guess it is understandable, though, since some people act like lunatics when asked to wear a mask. I saw a crazy woman in CVS threated to kill the person working the counter when he asked her to put on a mask. On the other hand, refs probably deal with insane people even in normal times.

OP here. We are not trying to cheat the rule, but just want to tell the other parents accurate information about what to expect.


Tell them the rule. Leave it at that.

Yes, that is what we are going to do, but my worry is that people who drop their kid and leave will be angry if multiple parents on the other team are permitted to stay. But, I don't see other choices for us. This is a frustrating year to be team manager, but it is what it is.
