I like that it isn’t smoky, but it does kind of look like you lit a fire in a garbage can and can only see the top of it. I don’t really see the point most of the time.

your friend isn't using it properly. mine rages. as long as the wood is below the top no smoke.

also you can get a deflector for it https://www.solostove.com/en-us/p/heat-deflector?g_acctid=918-383-8176&g_adgroupid=130570235205&g_adid=574828127680&g_adtype=search&g_campaign=zzz-DTC_paid-search_US_conv_x_all_google_text_br_eng&g_campaignid=932293910&g_keyword=bonfire+heat+deflector&g_keywordid=kwd-1268022198851&g_network=g&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqoDmhrfWhgMVNTnUAR2LAw3tEAAYASAAEgJEd_D_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

They sell an expensive attachment (maybe $100-150) just to solve the heat problem and deflect the heat horizontally

The stove gets hot. It emits no heat unless you are right on top of it. Really!

We have a gas fire pit/table and I prefer that because we can switch it on and off, no smoke, and it throws off heat.

What is a regular fire pit? Can you recommend yours?

We have one and really like it. For people with small backyards, it's really nice. It's lightweight so you can move it out of the way when not in use, and it emits far less smoke than a normal fire pit. Haven't notice any problems roasting marshmallows or hot dogs on it.

If you can't see the flames roaring above the top you are not using it properly.

I think these smokeless rocket stoves were invented for preppers so they could have a fire while hiding in their ditch and not be detected.
