I do not think the Michigan or Ohio accents are similar at all (Ohio is more Appalachian, Michigan is more Canadian). However, I do think that because of the Great Migration, there are "later"-arriving AA families from the South that sound similar in Detroit or Flint to Georgia. Until you ask them to "pop" or "party store" or "orange" and then the vowel-less Michigan accent comes out strong.
