I think it really depends on the area, and the schools.

Some privates have been open FT in person in my area since August, with zero issues.

Others (public) opened recently, had issues, and closed again after a few weeks. Most of these are high schools and middle schools, however. I feel they have a disadvantage over smaller private schools and elementary schools and are more likely to have issues.

Our suburban public district opened in person about a month ago- so far so good. The only cases so far were a few (under 5) at the high school- and that was a few weeks ago.

I’m mostly hoping the schools are able to stay open until breaking for winter break...I’d be fine if they go virtual again and pretty much expect it.

Our school has maintained google classroom with the middles school and high schools so they can switch back and forth easily. My elementary schoolers google classroom is still active (not really used daily, but weekly) so any transitions would hopefully be smooth

My daughter goes to a charter. She is back 4 school days out of every 10 from 8-2. 6 kids in person in her class. As a working parent, it is a total pain. But she loves it even with masks and new rules and is doing some real learning on those days. To me it's worth it. If she was stronger academically or I had time to really teach her, I might just do online.

I live in PA. Two kids, different schools:
One public middle. School year started with hybrid - A-K go Mon & Tue, L-Z go Wed & Thur. Everyone virtual Friday.
Shut down for two weeks at the end of September due to COVID. And then when they were to return, no bussing for a week due to COVID, so we had to do drop off and pickup... which meant 45 minutes in line because they aren’t set up for it. There’s been a couple days where they decided to close for a deep clean. We just received notification of another case, but the testing time was so long (last time in school over 2 weeks ago) that it’s past the time for quarantine, so they are not shutting down. That said, my son is sick, took COVID test Friday, (last in school Tuesday), waiting for results. If he’s positive, I know they will shut down.

Other son goes to a charter elementary school. They started the year all online, but moved to 4 day in person (Wednesdays virtual for deep clean) in early October. They just announced return to all virtual due to COVID.

Honestly, all virtual is easier to deal with than back and forth.

Yeah, I don't know why the anti-DL crowd keep begging for this. Sounds like hell for everyone, including the kids.
